Pointing or Transferring Domain Name

Domain Transfer

Pointing a domain to a new host is different from transferring a domain to a new registrar. A domain name points to the address where your site files are located. Which means you can purchase a domain from any domain registration company and have it point to your site files on any host. For example your domain registrar can be GoDaddy, meaning that you pay them to register your domain and provide you with an interface to tell it where to point. Your domain registrar and your site host do not have to be the same company.

There are two ways to point a domain name to new host: by pointing a domain name's primary ("@") A-Record to a server's public IP address or by changing DNS (domain name server) settings. Both A-Record and DNS changes are made via your domain register control panel. Pointing a domain via A-Record is preferred if you are using (or planning to use) @yourdomain email addresses. If you need help pointing your existing domain name contact your domain register support or email us your domain control panel login and we will point your domain for you.

Transferring a domain means that you change domain registrars. It is optional and as explained above you can simply point your domain to a website host. But if your domain was registered and maintained by a third party (your previous website provider for example) you might be required to transfer your domain when switching website providers. To transfer a domain you can setup your own account with any domain registration company and then transfer domain to that new account. Or you can transfer domain directly to us if you are going to host your car dealer website with us. If you transfer your domain to us we will maintain it for you free of charge for life.
